Ptolemy dynasty

 


The Ptolemaic dynasty (Ancient Greek: Πτολεμαῖοι or Λαγίδαι, English: Ptolemaic dynasty or Lagids), sometimes called the Lagid dynasty, derived from Lagas, the name of the father of Ptolemy I. The Ptolemy dynasty is Greek. Ruler of the Ptolemy Empire in Egypt during the Greek period. The Ptolemy dynasty flourished for almost 300 years, from 305 BC to 30 BC.

Ptolem was one of the seven bodyguards who served as Alexander the Great’s general and adjutant. Appointed as the governor of Egypt after Alexander died in 323 BC, in 305 BC, Ptolemy proclaimed himself King Ptolemy. And later known as “Sotor”, which means helper. The Egyptians later recognized the Ptolemy dynasty as a successor to the Egyptian pharaohs. The Ptolemy dynasty ruled Egypt until it was conquered by the Romans in 30 BC.

All the male heads were named Ptolemy. Some women are the younger sister of the consort, often using the name “Cleopatra” or “Arsinoe” or “Berenice”, the most essential member of the royal family. The last queen, Cleopatra VII, is known for her role in the political conflict between Julius Caesar and Pompey, and later between Octavian and Mark Antony.
